Hey by the way I wanted to ask your opinion...my brother will be getting his first car soon, and I’m looking at some 100 series land cruisers...good first car? Also what about the early 2000’s gen LX470? They can be found on the cheap, and they are built off the land cruiser platform, right? Not sequoia? I’d appreciate any thoughts. I’ve found some 100 series in the mid teens pricewise with around 100k miles but those things are bulletproof right?

Good first car? hmmm. I guess that boils down to what you would qualify as a good first car. Bulletproof? yes. maintenance free? nope. These are expensive cars to own for the sheer fact that a full fluids change is like $200...in fluids. And parts are expensive because they are overbuilt. To say nothing of economy. However, they hold their value like crazy and wont put a foot wrong unless previously abused. Slee has a good neewbie guide to the 100 that should help sort out desirable years and things to watch out for. The LX470 is a dressed up 100 series. My vote would be to watch out for ones with AHC, as they can have problems or air leveling rear suspension for obvious reasons. high teens for 100k examples is damn good, out west a clean 100k example would be low 20’s.
